तीन-चार वर्षांत बरेच बदल केले आहेत. पोलीस उपनिरीक्षक, साहाय्यक, विक्रीकर निरीक्षक या परीक्षांच्या अभ्यासक्रमात बदल केल्यानंतर राजपत्रित अधिकारी पदासाठी होणाऱ्या राज्यसेवा परीक्षेत तर आमूलाग्र बदल केला म्हणजे डिस्क्रिप्टिव्ह पद्धतीची परीक्षा ही पूर्णपणे वस्तुनिष्ठ व बहुपर्यायी स्वरूपाची केली. (परीक्षेच्या उत्तरपद्धतीमध्ये निगेटिव्ह मार्किंग पद्धत आणली हादेखील एक उल्लेखनीय बदल आहे.) आणि आता याच परीक्षेतील पूर्वपरीक्षेत एका प्रश्नपुस्तिकेऐवजी दोन प्रश्नपुस्तिकांचा समावेश केलेला आहे आणि हो, हा बदल म्हणजे यूपीएससी परीक्षेच्या पूर्वपरीक्षेप्रमाणेच महाराष्ट्र लोकसेवा आयोगाची पूर्वपरीक्षा.
दोन प्रश्नपुस्तिकेपैकी पहिली प्रश्नपुस्तिका ही सामान्य अध्ययन या विषयाची तर दुसरी प्रश्नपुस्तिका ही यूपीएससी परीक्षेच्या सीसॅट परीक्षेप्रमाणे आहे. दोन्ही प्रश्नपुस्तिकेस दोन तासांचा कालावधी देण्यात आलेला असून प्रत्येक प्रश्नपुस्तिका २०० गुणांची ठेवण्यात आलेली आहे. दुसरी प्रश्नपुस्तिका म्हणजे एमपीएससी परीक्षेचा अभ्यास करणाऱ्या उमेदवारांसाठी पूर्णत: नवीन असा अभ्यासक्रम आहे. त्यामुळे या लेखात आपण या दुसऱ्या प्रश्नपुस्तिकेच्या अभ्यासक्रमाबाबत चर्चा करू. त्यातही मुख्यत: रिझनिंग व मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी याबाबत पाहू.
२०० गुणांच्या या प्रश्नपुस्तिकेत कॉम्प्रीहेन्शन, इंटरपर्सनल स्किल्स इन्क्लुडिंग कम्युनिकेशन स्किल, लॉजिकल रिझनिंग, डिसिजन मेकिंग अ‍ॅण्ड प्रॉब्लेम सॉल्िंव्हग, जनरल मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी, बेसिक न्युमरसी (नंबर्स अ‍ॅण्ड देअर रिलेशन, ऑर्डर्स ऑफ मॅग्निटय़ुड इ.), डाटा इंटरप्रिटेशन, मराठी आणि इंग्रजी भाषा कॉम्प्रीहेन्शन स्किल या घटकांचा समावेश केलेला आहे.
लॉजिकल रिझनिंग अ‍ॅण्ड अ‍ॅनॉलिटिकल रिझनिंग या घटकात समान-संबंध, विसंगत घटक, सांकेतिक भाषा, संख्यामालिका, वर्णमालिका, दिशाविषयक प्रश्न, नातेसंबंध, विधाने-अनुमान, माहितीचे पृथक्करण, बैठक व रांगेतील प्रश्न, तुलनात्मक प्रश्न, घडय़ाळावरील प्रश्न, दिनदर्शिका व कालमापन, आकृत्यांची संख्या मोजणे अशा प्रश्नांचा समावेश होतो तर संख्यामालिका या घटकात मालिकापूर्ती, आकृतीतील गाळलेल्या जागी योग्य संख्या पर्यायातून निवडणे, कंसातील संख्या शोधणे तसेच वर्णमालिका या घटकात अक्षरांची लयबद्ध रचना, वर्णमालिका पूर्ण करणे, अक्षर व अंक मालिकेत गाळलेल्या जागी योग्य पर्याय निवडणे, समान संबंध या घटकात अंक-अंक संबंध, अंक-वर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-वर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-अंकवर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-चिन्ह संबंध या उपघटकांचा समावेश होतो. सांकेतिक भाषा या घटकात मिश्र सांकेतिक भाषा, वर्ण-वर्ण सांकेतिक भाषा, वर्ण-अंक सांकेतिक भाषा यांचा समावेश होतो.
बेसिक न्युमरसी या घटकात संख्या व संख्याप्रणाली, अपूर्णाकाचा लहान-मोठेपणा, डेसिमल (दशांश) तसेच बायनॉमिअल नंबर्स अशा घटकांचा समावेश होतो.
जनरल मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी या घटकात क्वॉन्टिटेटिव्ह अ‍ॅप्टिटय़ुड या घटकाशी संबंधित म्हणजे मसावि व लसावि, सरासरी, काळ-काम व वेग, अंतर-वेग व वेळ, शतमान-शेकडेवारी, नफा-तोटा, गुणोत्तर-प्रमाण, भागीदारी, आगगाडीवरील प्रश्न, बोट व प्रवाहावरील प्रश्न, मिश्रणावर आधारित प्रश्न, इनपूट-आऊटपूट, डेटा सफिशियन्सी, सरळ व्याज व चक्रवाढ व्याज, अशा प्रश्नांचा यात समावेश केलेला असतो.
या परीक्षेचा अभ्यासक्रम अशा पद्धतीचा असून हा बदल नक्कीच बदल स्वागतार्ह आहे. बदल ही एकमेव कायम राहणारी गोष्ट आहे, असे आपण म्हणतो. म्हणूनच या बदलाचा स्वीकार करत परीक्षेला बसणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी बदलत्या पॅटर्ननुसार आपल्या अभ्यासात बदल करायला हवा. फेब्रुवारी महिन्यात परीक्षा घेण्याचे संकेत लोकसेवा आयोगाकडून देण्यात आलेले आहेत. हा अंदाज घेत अभ्यासाला सुरुवात करा.

महाराष्ट्र लोकसेवा आयोगातर्फे परीक्षा पद्धतीत गेल्या
तीन-चार वर्षांत बरेच बदल केले आहेत. पोलीस उपनिरीक्षक, साहाय्यक, विक्रीकर निरीक्षक या परीक्षांच्या अभ्यासक्रमात बदल केल्यानंतर राजपत्रित अधिकारी पदासाठी होणाऱ्या राज्यसेवा परीक्षेत तर आमूलाग्र बदल केला म्हणजे डिस्क्रिप्टिव्ह पद्धतीची परीक्षा ही पूर्णपणे वस्तुनिष्ठ व बहुपर्यायी स्वरूपाची केली. (परीक्षेच्या उत्तरपद्धतीमध्ये निगेटिव्ह मार्किंग पद्धत आणली हादेखील एक उल्लेखनीय बदल आहे.) आणि आता याच परीक्षेतील पूर्वपरीक्षेत एका प्रश्नपुस्तिकेऐवजी दोन प्रश्नपुस्तिकांचा समावेश केलेला आहे आणि हो, हा बदल म्हणजे यूपीएससी परीक्षेच्या पूर्वपरीक्षेप्रमाणेच महाराष्ट्र लोकसेवा आयोगाची पूर्वपरीक्षा.
दोन प्रश्नपुस्तिकेपैकी पहिली प्रश्नपुस्तिका ही सामान्य अध्ययन या विषयाची तर दुसरी प्रश्नपुस्तिका ही यूपीएससी परीक्षेच्या सीसॅट परीक्षेप्रमाणे आहे. दोन्ही प्रश्नपुस्तिकेस दोन तासांचा कालावधी देण्यात आलेला असून प्रत्येक प्रश्नपुस्तिका २०० गुणांची ठेवण्यात आलेली आहे. दुसरी प्रश्नपुस्तिका म्हणजे एमपीएससी परीक्षेचा अभ्यास करणाऱ्या उमेदवारांसाठी पूर्णत: नवीन असा अभ्यासक्रम आहे. त्यामुळे या लेखात आपण या दुसऱ्या प्रश्नपुस्तिकेच्या अभ्यासक्रमाबाबत चर्चा करू. त्यातही मुख्यत: रिझनिंग व मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी याबाबत पाहू.
२०० गुणांच्या या प्रश्नपुस्तिकेत कॉम्प्रीहेन्शन, इंटरपर्सनल स्किल्स इन्क्लुडिंग कम्युनिकेशन स्किल, लॉजिकल रिझनिंग, डिसिजन मेकिंग अ‍ॅण्ड प्रॉब्लेम सॉल्िंव्हग, जनरल मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी, बेसिक न्युमरसी (नंबर्स अ‍ॅण्ड देअर रिलेशन, ऑर्डर्स ऑफ मॅग्निटय़ुड इ.), डाटा इंटरप्रिटेशन, मराठी आणि इंग्रजी भाषा कॉम्प्रीहेन्शन स्किल या घटकांचा समावेश केलेला आहे.
लॉजिकल रिझनिंग अ‍ॅण्ड अ‍ॅनॉलिटिकल रिझनिंग या घटकात समान-संबंध, विसंगत घटक, सांकेतिक भाषा, संख्यामालिका, वर्णमालिका, दिशाविषयक प्रश्न, नातेसंबंध, विधाने-अनुमान, माहितीचे पृथक्करण, बैठक व रांगेतील प्रश्न, तुलनात्मक प्रश्न, घडय़ाळावरील प्रश्न, दिनदर्शिका व कालमापन, आकृत्यांची संख्या मोजणे अशा प्रश्नांचा समावेश होतो तर संख्यामालिका या घटकात मालिकापूर्ती, आकृतीतील गाळलेल्या जागी योग्य संख्या पर्यायातून निवडणे, कंसातील संख्या शोधणे तसेच वर्णमालिका या घटकात अक्षरांची लयबद्ध रचना, वर्णमालिका पूर्ण करणे, अक्षर व अंक मालिकेत गाळलेल्या जागी योग्य पर्याय निवडणे, समान संबंध या घटकात अंक-अंक संबंध, अंक-वर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-वर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-अंकवर्ण संबंध, वर्ण-चिन्ह संबंध या उपघटकांचा समावेश होतो. सांकेतिक भाषा या घटकात मिश्र सांकेतिक भाषा, वर्ण-वर्ण सांकेतिक भाषा, वर्ण-अंक सांकेतिक भाषा यांचा समावेश होतो.

जनरल मेंटल अ‍ॅबिलिटी या घटकात क्वॉन्टिटेटिव्ह अ‍ॅप्टिटय़ुड या घटकाशी संबंधित म्हणजे मसावि व लसावि, सरासरी, काळ-काम व वेग, अंतर-वेग व वेळ, शतमान-शेकडेवारी, नफा-तोटा, गुणोत्तर-प्रमाण, भागीदारी, आगगाडीवरील प्रश्न, बोट व प्रवाहावरील प्रश्न, मिश्रणावर आधारित प्रश्न, इनपूट-आऊटपूट, डेटा सफिशियन्सी, सरळ व्याज व चक्रवाढ व्याज, अशा प्रश्नांचा यात समावेश केलेला असतो.
या परीक्षेचा अभ्यासक्रम अशा पद्धतीचा असून हा बदल नक्कीच बदल स्वागतार्ह आहे. बदल ही एकमेव कायम राहणारी गोष्ट आहे, असे आपण म्हणतो. म्हणूनच या बदलाचा स्वीकार करत परीक्षेला बसणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांनी बदलत्या पॅटर्ननुसार आपल्या अभ्यासात बदल करायला हवा. फेब्रुवारी महिन्यात परीक्षा घेण्याचे संकेत लोकसेवा आयोगाकडून देण्यात आलेले आहेत. हा अंदाज घेत अभ्यासाला सुरुवात करा.

Like any other employees, we at the call center industry also underwent a preliminary job interview and a final interview (and in some cases; a semi-final interview in b
etween). Well, what do you expect? You are applying for a job that requires some serious talking, and what better ways to look into your qualifications if not by letting you talk? And by talki...
ng, I mean, by speaking American English (since most call centers offer American accounts). So before taking the plunge, ask yourself, “Do I speak passable American English (I don’t mean the accent)? “If the answer is yes, then you are up for a good start. Bad news is, it doesn’t end there. Your opinion about how well you speak the language during the interview doesn’t count as much as the opinion of the interviewer. So you need to do well, really well.
Here are some things and tips that you need to consider before taking a call center job interview. This might just be able to help you get the nod of the recruiter, so read on.
1. If you plan to come as a walk in applicant, it is preferable that you apply in the morning. Come early. This could save you a lot of trouble. By coming early, you save yourself the trouble of falling in line, waiting for your turn to be interviewed, avoid the traffic rush and have enough time to rest and relax before the actual interview. Rushing and waiting could be stressful. Stress combined with pressure is not something that will help you pass the interview. The more relax you are, the more confident you appear. During a call center interview, confidence could spell the difference between getting the job and coming back for another interview after 6 months.
2. Bring a pocket book or buy yourself a newspaper or any reading material (as long as it is in English) and bring it along with you when applying. A reading material could come handy while waiting for your turn. It will give you something to do, just incase you came too early or when the recruiters arrive to work late (which always happen to some centers by the way). Aside from that, reading a good English book could put your brains into English mode. It will be easier for you to put your thoughts directly to an English word when you are ready for it mentally.
3. Don’t easily get intimidated. Easier said than done, right? There are some centers, especially the ones that are getting high volume of applicant day –in and day-out that conducts initial interview via group discussion. This is when they would call for five or more applicants and interview them as a group. The questions are pretty much the same for everyone. The recruiter asks the second, the third and the last applicant the same questions he asked the first applicant. Then it should be easy for the other guys to answer the questions because it they will have enough time to formulate their answers, right? Wrong! I have seen applicants fold under pressure because of this type of interview. When they hear other applicants speak really well, they get intimidated; they wither and seem to have lost their tongues. As I have mentioned on item number one; confidence is everything. The more confident you are, the better your chances in landing the job.
4. Organize your thoughts and present it as confident as you could. I will be including a list of the most commonly questions asked during a call center job interview in this page soon. I hope it will help.
5. Speak slowly. Sometimes we misinterpret fast talking as fluency. Nope, that is not the case. Americans speak an average of 130 words per minute. Try timing yourself while you are reading something. One minute is a long time, Since we Filipinos are use to speaking fast English then try slowing down, if you are speaking uncomfortably slow (so long as it is not ssoooo ssslloooowww) then you are pacing yourself right. And this is a good thing, if you speak slowly, the more that you could organize your thoughts and would allow you to be mindful of your fillers (more of it on the next item) and control them, pronounce the words properly (if needed), speak clearly.
6. Remember; the recruiter is looking for weakness on you grammar and accent. If you have a regional accent like I did, practice neutralizing it. Be mindful of the uhhm and aahhs, don’t stutter. Fillers are okay so long as they don’t become a nuisance by constant repetition. Remember that even Americans also use fillers when they are speak, especially when they can’t find the right words. If you could present your thought in such a way that you don’t use fillers such as the uhhm and aahhs, the better. But if you can’t help but commit a few, don’t worry about it as long as it is really “a few”.
